Homebase — Privacy Policy

1. What Homebase is

Homebase is a Chrome extension that replaces the new-tab page with a customizable, widget-based dashboard (clock, calendar, todos, notes, quick links, weather, news, etc.).

2. Data we collect

None. Homebase has no backend, no analytics, no telemetry, and no third-party SDKs. We do not know who installs, uses, or uninstalls the extension.

3. Data Homebase stores locally

Homebase uses Chrome's built-in storage APIs to save your preferences so your dashboard looks the same every time you open a tab. This data lives entirely on your device and, if you are signed in to Chrome, optionally syncs to your own Google account via chrome.storage.sync. It is never sent to us.

Stored locally:

• Your chosen theme, layout, and widget sizes
• Widget configuration (e.g., your selected city for Weather, your todo items, your notes)
• Your name, if you entered one for the greeting
• Cached API responses (weather, news, currency rates) to reduce network requests

4. Chrome permissions — how they're used

• storage — persist your settings locally and via chrome.storage.sync.
• history — read your recent browsing history to display it inside the Browser history widget. Never transmitted anywhere.
• readingList — read your Chrome reading list to display it inside the Reading list widget. Never transmitted anywhere.
• downloads — list your recent downloads inside the Downloads widget, and optionally clear the download history from the widget. Never transmitted anywhere.
• tabs, webNavigation — power the optional "Managed homepage redirect" feature (disabled by default). When enabled, navigations matching URL prefixes you configure are redirected to this new-tab page. Nothing is logged or sent externally.

5. Third-party APIs Homebase calls

Certain widgets fetch public data directly from your browser. No account or API key is required, and Homebase has no server in between — your browser talks directly to these services, which may record the request according to their own privacy policies.

• Open-Meteo (api.open-meteo.com, geocoding-api.open-meteo.com, air-quality-api.open-meteo.com) — Weather, Air quality, World clocks (city search)
• Frankfurter (api.frankfurter.app) — Currency converter
• Dictionary API (api.dictionaryapi.dev) — Dictionary widget
• Google Favicons (www.google.com/s2/favicons) — small site icons for Quick Links and history entries

If you grant Homebase access to your geolocation (via the Weather or Air quality widget), it is used only to fetch the current forecast for your coordinates and is never stored off-device.

6. Data sharing

Homebase does not share, sell, transfer, or rent any data to anyone. We do not operate any servers.

7. Children

Homebase is a general-purpose productivity tool and does not knowingly collect data from anyone, including children under 13.

8. Changes to this policy

If the behavior of Homebase changes in a way that affects privacy, this page will be updated and the "Last updated" date above will be revised. Significant changes will be noted in the extension's release notes.
